Collection: The Brightsky Pinkgil Collection
The Latin word madidum in its name translates to “wet”, referring to the fact that the cap of this Entoloma often looks glossy, slimy, or water-slicked, while its gills led to it being miscategorised as an agarica - leading to one of its previous synonyms Agaricus madidus.
If there was ever a mushroom that deserved to be immortalised in thread, it’s this one. It may not be as deadly as the deathcap, or as fearsome looking as the devil's fingers or morell, it makes up for all that by looking so unreal that its appearance is guaranteed to cause a doubletake in any untrained spotter (though because of its rarity, you should never pick it)!
That’s exactly why we’ve immortalised it in full-colour embroidery (and why it’s the only design in our range, so far, that’s available on the blue items). Using an original illustration by the legendary British mycologist Geoffrey Kibby (yes, really – and yes, with permission), we’ve made it for anyone to proudly wear this rare beauty.
Why wear the Brightsky Pinkgill?
- Its intense blue pigment makes it one of the most visually distinctive fungi in the world.
- Due to its rarity, the Entoloma madidum on your clothing may be the only one most mushroom hunters will ever see (and that technically counts as ‘in the wild’, right?)
So, if you’re someone who sees beauty in the bizarre, knows the difference between an Enokitake and an Echigoshirayukidake, and likes to add a little colour in unexpected situations this might just be the design for you - part secret handshake for the mycologically obsessed, part celebration of the beauty and colourfulness of nature.
